RESUME OF DR. TERRY L. IRISH

 

            Terry Lee Irish was born in Nampa, Idaho at Samaritan Hospital, next to the campus of Northwest Nazarene College, on October 18, 1951.

Terry graduated from Selah, Washington High School in 1970, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974 from Northwest Nazarene College (now Northwest Nazarene University) in Nampa, Idaho.  In May of 1978, he received his Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.  On May 13, 2001, he became officially recognized as Dr. Terry L. Irish when he received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.

            Terry has been on staff at Nazarene Churches in: Emmett, Idaho; Grandview, Missouri; Roseburg, Oregon; and Baker City, Oregon.  He was the Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Cle Elum, Washington, served as Senior Pastor at the Spokane, Washington Crestline Church of the Nazarene, and as Pastor of the Crescent City, California Church of the Nazarene from September of 1988 until April 15, 2001.

            For ten years, 1990 – 2000, Terry led community grief support groups throughout Del Norte County.  He has attended several seminars on various aspects of the grieving process, and is a Nationally Certified Bereavement Facilitator by the American Academy of Bereavement.  He has also taught about the grieving process and responding to the losses of life for a number of Del Norte County community groups: Del Norte County Unified School District teachers and staff; several classes at Del Norte High School; G.A.T.E. presentations at DNHS; Sutter Coast Home Care and Hospice staff; A local doctor’s medical staff; The Widowed Persons Service, and many more. 

            While working on his doctorate, Terry’s Pastoral Research Project (PRP, also known as a dissertation in some other areas of post-graduate doctoral study), “An Equipping Curriculum For Leadership To Help Grieving People Reconcile And Integrate the Losses Of Life”  was approved in March of 2001.  He hopes to eventually publish his PRP.

            Terry married his college sweetheart, Carol, on Saturday, June 21, 1974, three weeks after they both graduated from NNC (now NNU).  They have been married for nearly twenty-seven years and are the parents of three children: Jeremy - a May, 2000 graduate from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA who now lives with his bride, Elynor Twyeffort Irish in Rochester, New York; Jonathan - a Senior at Del Norte High School who is scheduled to complete his high school studies and graduate on Friday, June 15, 2001; and Jennifer – who is finishing the 7th Grade at Sunnyvale Middle School.
