Be Healthy, Make Disciples!”  This is our motto for the year ahead of us.  Each church is challenged to take the Church Health Survey so that we can identify which of the Eight Quality Characteristics of a health church needs attention in the local church.  The most common need among our churches that have already taken the survey have to do with making the Worship Service more inspiring and the second is making our organizational system (Functional Structures) more effective.  Plans are being developed to offer resources to the local churches in improving these and all the other key measuring factors.

The second portion of this motto is to raise the value of making disciples in every church.  Jesus commands us to make disciples and also promises He will build His church.  Too often we ignore making disciples and put our energy in building the church.  This is counterproductive.  Again, we have resources available to recommend to help make practical steps becoming a disciple making church.  Let us focus our energy according to Jesus words!  Dr. John Calhoun, D.S.

We want to say a “special thank you” to The Point for hosting a wonderful Assembly this year.  It was a great celebration at their new facility with lots of room to roam and friendly volunteers to assist everyone!  We enjoyed the lunches that were served in-house, and especially the BBQ on Friday!  The Ordination Service was very beautiful.  The reception was held outside on the patio area with warm weather, a full moon, and a view of the twinkling lights of the city.  It was a celebration that reflected God’s beauty and love for us.

How Much Do You Pay for Medical Insurance?

May is the month that we focus on our Mission Heath Care!  Our missionaries do not have health insurance, as North American Insurance Companies will not insure them overseas.  The Global church funds the health care needs of our missionaries and we have the opportunity to help!  Every church can do something, from the available avenues set up for Nazarenes to participate.  Your church could take an offering, or honor someone that has passed away on the Memorial Roll, or with a Distinguished Service Award.  There is also Gifts from the Heart, gift cards that are available to send for special occasions such as Birthdays, Anniversaries, Graduation or maybe just Thinking of You.  This is done on an individual basis, just follow the guidelines listed here.

  •  Choose your donation amount and make the check payable to "General Treasurer, Church of the Nazarene." Write "Gifts From the Heart" on the memo line of the check.
  • Enclose your check in the convenient remittance envelope and mail it.
  • Write a personal note in the space provided on the gift card and give it to the appropriate person (or mail it to them).

That's it!  Your gift is on its way to your loved one, and your donation is on its way to the Global Treasury Services Office (formerly General Treasurer's Office).  The best part is that you helped provide much-needed health care for more than 700 Nazarene missionaries and their families ministering around the world.

World Mission Broadcast (formerly named World Evangelism Broadcast)

Every June, the church takes an offering to help spread the word of God by way of the radio, television, and the Internet.  This offering provides funding for holiness to reach into areas of our world where missionaries are not welcome.  It is literally taking the gospel to the outer most parts of the world.  The cost for this tool is only $4.00 per minute.  Luis Palau has said, “that radio penetrates behind closed doors … nobody could ever stop you from listening to the radio.  Part of the harvest all over the world – I know in China – is due to radio waves being beamed for decades in there.”  The Church of the Nazarene is taking the gospel into the darkest areas of our world and letting people know about our Jesus.

Rev. John Wilcox, NMI President

SSM RECENTLY HELD “TWO” IMPORTANT EVENTS

"Getting on Track--From information to Transformation" was held Saturday, May 20 at the Petaluma Church.  About 35 North Bay leaders gathered for the purpose of becoming better equipped to help their churches provide opportunities for personal spiritual transformation.  The call to make disciples is not ultimately about knowing "more stuff", but about learning how to obediently walk with Jesus.  This is our prayer for every church across the district!

Kid's Encounter was held May 26-28 at Redwood Glenn Campground.  65 children and 25 adults gathered for a time of hiking, swimming, campfires, crafts, and time with God.  “Thank you” to Carol Kibler, Gerry Hauser, Norma Siberts and Regina Allard for leading this annual weekend!  (Hey kids...if would like to tell about the fun you had, feel free to e-mail Tim King, pastor@salinasnewlife.org and we'll post your comments on the website!)
