The Pastors and Leaders
Conference (PALCON) office is announcing a new, five-point prayer emphasis.
Prayer Coordinator and Central Florida District Superintendent Larry Dennis has
been asked to lead this effort. The thrust emphasizes:
1. Nazarene laity reading
PALCON's official devotional guide, Pastor, I'm Praying For You during the
month of May. Laypersons will offer prayers for their pastors.
2. A prayer network of
one district superintendent from each educational region organizing a united
prayer effort among pastors.
3. PALCON prayer cards,
available as a spiritual communication tool, given to participating clergy at
each PALCON. Prayer needs can be listed anonymously.
4. A team of pastors
praying all night in 30-minute shifts during each PALCON event for prayer needs
listed on the prayer cards.
5. Volunteer clergy
praying during the evening worship sessions, interceding for leaders as well as
all participants.
PALCON 2004 begins July 26 at PLNC. For more information on
PALCON, visit their web site: http://www.nazarenepastor.org/palcon.html.

ROAM’s Latest Project
Rocky Creek Camp/Nazarene
Conference Center
" Tabernacle
Renovation Project" in the Louisiana District.
Mr. & Mrs. Jerry
Chrisenbery, Directors
GREETINGS IN JESUS'
NAME!!! God is good!
What a privilege and
honor to have you and your team members with us for 2 weeks and some for 3
weeks. I have never in my 68 years witnessed a more unified and effective group
of volunteers as all of you worked together to complete the Rocky Creek Camp/Nazarene
Conference Center "Tabernacle Renovation Project" here on the
Louisiana District in Pineville, Louisiana.
The Louisiana District
Church of the Nazarene has been planning to enclose and air-condition our
campground tabernacle at Rocky Creek Camp/Nazarene Conference Center, 908 Mary
Hill Road, Pineville, Louisiana, about 3 years. We were in the process of
getting estimates on the plumbing, heating and A/C, and electrical and securing
the finances when we received a call from a ROAM (RVs On A Mission)
representative asking if we had any projects on the campground that team
members could work on. Rev. Elgin Glendenning, our campground manager,
excitedly responded with a resounding "YES!"

Work began in earnest on
February 9th and in 3 days, the walls were framed and sheathed on the 3 open
sides of the 80' x 100' structure. The volunteer electricians saved us about
$18,000 labor and the drywallers, wall builders, siding hangers, insulation
stuffers, and painters saved us another $10,000-$15,000, for a total savings of
$33,000-$35,000.
These are saved and
sanctified men and women from Oregon to New Hampshire, blending their talents
and skills to accomplish a great task for God. Thousands of people, including
children and teens, will bow at the altars of the tabernacle in years to come,
seeking and finding forgiveness of sins and experiencing sanctification. And
all of these dedicated servants will have had a part in it.

Our camp meeting this
year is June 8-13 with Rev. Gary Bond and Dr. Gary Haines as our evangelists
and Steve and Kim Hinze as our singers. Come to Camp meeting 2004 and
experience the presence of God in Louisiana!
Love and Prayers,
Bro. Gene

This has been a difficult
time for the Point Loma campus community. In early April, one of our young
students, Joy Maxwell, lost her battle with cancer. Joy had been attendance
this semester and only recently withdrew to go home so she could get treatment
and be with family. She died at her home with her family.
The same week, Dr.
Michael McConnell received word that his mother and sister were killed in a
head-on auto crash near Porterville, California. Both Michael and his wife
Kathy are long-time faculty members at the University.
Prayers are needed for
Wayne Shirley and his family, a retired elder on our district. His beloved
wife, Wilma passed away early in the week. The celebration of Wilma's life was
held at the Salinas Iglesia del Nazareno Oasis Church, and was presided over by
Pastor Tim King, on April 8th. The Shirley's have one daughter and two sons.
Wilma was a graduate of
Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University). She was an elemementry
school teacher and taught Sunday school for many years. She was on the district
missionary council, and assisted her husband with duties as he pastored over
the years. Currently Pastor Wayne attends the Salinas New Life Church.
Join The Bridge in
welcoming Rev. Patti Bransome and her family to the Marin Church of the
Nazarene. She homeschools two of her four children, and has enjoyed working in
the local school teaching music. Patti's husband, Ed, is a Federal Police
Officer working for the West Coast Garrison of the Army Reserve. Their children
are Erin (who attends Hartnell Community College), Ed (Sophmore in High
School), Shane (8th Grade) and Stewart (3rd Grade).

General Superintendent
Jerry D. Porter addressed the Nazarene Headquarters Centennial Celebration
planning team, posing the question, "What is passion?" Porter spoke
on defining what is truly important-what one is passionate about as, "that
for which one would die."
The 2008 Nazarene
Centennial Celebration, while yet a few years away, is receiving attention
regarding planning for participation, events, and faith projections. Porter
spoke of "turning points that are important to passion and its
development." He affirmed the need for such events and reflected on the
emerging sense of hope and optimism stemming from recent reports of growth and
outreach.
"Pentecost was such
an event," said Porter. "It not only gave birth to the Church, it
infected those early believers with a new passion." He added, "Such
turning points are common in nature. 'Normal' might be to continue where we
are. 'Passion' demands that we break out of the comfort zones of preoccupation
with maintenance, traditional methodologies, and limited vision."
Porter then asked the
group, "Are these merely words in the wind or are they convictions of our
hearts?"
In his conclusion, Porter
challenged the team to understand that, "Passion-driven change can bring
fresh glory to God. Indeed, God often changes his methods to bring new glory to
himself." Members of the planning group were urged to remember that,
"Passionate people embrace God's new future, infecting others with their
contagion."

focusing not only on studying the Word, but living it out.

General Assembly Advance Team to Indy
NCN News, April 16, 2004
Nearly 40 representatives
from Nazarene International Headquarters and Nazarene educational institutions
scoured the city of Indianapolis, Indiana this week looking for innovative ways
to serve the 35,000-plus guests and visitors to General Assembly 2005.
The city and the
Nazarenes have a long and friendly relationship. City convention bureau
personnel continually roll out the red carpet to Nazarenes with efficient,
courteous service. The city has invested heavily in its center infrastructure,
opening new hotels and refurbishing existing services.
Simultaneously, the 2005
General Assembly Arrangements Committee met to review details surrounding
service schedules and exhibit hall configurations, as well as to recommend new
features to attract guests and visitors. Jack Stone, General
Secretary/Headquarters Operations Officer, convened a meeting Tuesday, April 14
in which various themes, logistics, and innovative responses could be considered.
The opening service for
the 2005 General Assembly is set for Thursday evening, June 23, 2005 with
Nazarene Missions International (NMI) General Director Nina Gunter speaking.
Following the precedent of previous General Assemblies, the NMI General
Convention will be the first public service of the Conventions and Auxiliaries.
On Friday night, June 24, 2005, the service will feature a Nazarene Youth
International (NYI) emphasis, with General Superintendent James H. Diehl
speaking. Sunday School Ministries will be featured in the Saturday evening
service on June 25, 2005, with General Superintendent Paul G. Cunningham speaking.
General Assembly officially opens with the traditional worship service and the
celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Communion on Sunday morning, June 26,
2005. General Superintendent Jim L. Bond will serve as preacher and celebrant
for the service. The schedule continues with General Superintendents W.
Talmadge Johnson speaking Sunday evening, Jerry D. Porter on Monday evening,
and Jesse C. Middendorf Tuesday evening.
