Pray for District Assembly and Conventions

I call upon our District Church to help prepare for our family gathering through special prayer.

We seek a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit upon all who attend so that we are enabled to be more effective in reaching the broken and lost people around us.

Let us "Attempt great things for God and expect great things from God." (William Carey)

Greetings pastors, youth workers and students,

I hope that things are going well in each of your respective ministries.

District NYI is in full swing.  I hope that by now you have receive via snail mail and email information for our up coming NYI Convention/Stepping Out which will be held after District Assembly starting Friday night May 12 and going until Saturday May 13 at 3:00pm.  Please return to me the Nomination and Registration forms so that we can adequately prepare for the events.  If you have not received these forms, please contact me, and I will send them to you.

Last year we were privileged to be God’s hands, feet, face, smile to people in the streets of San Francisco.  We brought lunches, and shared it with them.  We literally broke bread with the people.  We heard their stories, and in return, some of us were able to share ours.  We hope to do the same for the people in the city of San Jose.  Please be in prayer for this time.  Everyone is invited to join us.  We are asking each person to donate $5.00 to make lunch for everyone and for those that we meet.  And just a reminder, please have each of your participants below the age of 18 fill out your local church’s release forms.

San Francisco New Life Church
Celebrates "100th Anniversary"

By Joan Martin

It was a day of celebration, filled with greetings, stories that rekindled memories, laughter, and joy under the loving gaze of the Most High.  On Sunday, March 19, 2006, New Life Church of the Nazarene, formerly know as San Francisco First Church of the Nazarene, celebrated its Centennial year.  We sought to put God on display for one hundred years of His favor, providence, and provision for believers in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.

The day merged time and space.  It began fittingly with worshipping God in the morning service.  We thanked God for the lives of pastors and church leaders.  Among those present were Rev. Rich and Cathy Bisson, Rev. Fred and June Forster, Rev. Michael Funk, Dr. P.T. and Thankam Mammen, former District Superintendent, Clarence and Sue Kinzler, and District Superintendent, John and Jan Calhoun.  For many newer church members, no longer were their names just names.  They were real people with real stories that portrayed God’s hand on His people through one hundred years.

Youth at New LifeThe day continued with an evening dinner banquet at the Westin Hotel in Millbrae.  There was a retelling of the church’s story within the context of San Francisco’s story in a video presentation.  There were numerous opportunities for previous pastors and wives, previous church members and district superintendents to share the story of God’s great love as He brought the church through earthquakes, fires, landslides, and building vandalism.

Their stories added meaning to today’s existence of New Life Church.  They gave clarity to God’s redeeming power and provided richness to the heritage of what the church is today.  The reality of one hundred years was not just a slogan, not just a phrase.  We saw how God honored Himself by working through the years in the lives of faithful men and women serving the Lord.

Pastor Jeff Mammen closed the evening with a charge to continue the legacy of being a people of the gospel.  By the day’s end, the baton had been passed from faithful people to us.  As God is faithful, we look forward to more years at New Life Church of bringing people to God through the gospel.

“That day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and the children also rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard afar off.”  Nehemiah 12:43
