World Mission Easter Offering

Easter is March 23rd.  Make sure your church takes an Easter Offering for World Missions.  Jesus the Hope, a tremendous opportunity to share the message with non-believer’s in 151 mission areas around the world.  Our Easter Offering for World Evangelism supports the work of missions in the Church of the Nazarene. This includes supplying the needs of 758 missionaries in 2000 churches around the world.   Make sure you seize the opportunity to express your gratitude to the Lord not only in our praise and worship, but also in our monetary giving for missions.

Tylenol for New Guinea

Our District Missions Convention will be May 1st in Santa Rosa.  Once again our District is collecting Tylenol for our Nazarene Hospital in Kudjup, New Guinea.  Our goal is to collect adequate Tylenol to supply the hospital with enough pain medication to last a year!  If each church will give $20.00, this will help cover the postage to send the Tylenol for these beautiful Pacific Island people.

World Evangelism Fund

The cause of missions depends on each one of us to do our part.  Not only do our missionaries need us to do our part but; in order for the Northern California District to take a team of young people and adults on a Work and Witness trip it is important that we make 92 % of our goal as a District.  Lives change because of Jesus and what people see Him do in the lives of others that discover who Jesus is and see His hand at work. It is important that every church on our district make the effort to pay 100% of their allotment, but if that is not possible without a miracle then give a minimum of 10% or a tithe from the income of the church.

The Hands and Feet of Jesus Christ in the Midst of the Storm

Six weeks after Tropical Storm Noel, people were still displaced from their homes and living in shelters.  On December 11, 2007, they faced another setback as Tropical Storm Olga began to pound the already rain soaked country.  Olga raced across Puerto Rico and the island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) requiring many to once again flee from their homes.
Children benefiting from Crisis Care Kits            Throughout the country, 18 bridges were damaged, 12 lives were lost, and crops were destroyed.  In the Dominican Republic, the city of Bonao was prepared for the two-day storm, which dumped up to 10 additional inches of rain.  With shelters still in place and full of people, they prepared for the additional needs caused by the persistent rain and rising rivers.
District Superintendent Carlos De la Cruz (Northeast District) visited one shelter occupied by almost 40 families.  As he distributed Crisis Care Kits, he learned an additional 200 people would call this shelter their home by the end of the day.
What was his response?  He returned in the evening with more Crisis Care Kits and the JESUS Film.   During Tropical Storm Noel, Pastor De la Cruz led the evangelical churches in a citywide revival.  Many people came to know the Lord as their personal Savior.  In times of loss, devastation and fear, people need both physical and spiritual help.  Giving a little bag filled with basic items, showing the JESUS film, having a revival, and sharing God’s love with people is how this pastor is the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in the city of Bonao, Dominican Republic.  Copied from www.nazarene.org

Sunday School Ministry News

Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn."

This proved true last weekend when 19 teenagers chose to experience the World Vision/Compassionate Ministries 30 Hour Famine (fundraising event for Malawi) at my home church, Salinas New Life.  During a 30 hour lock-in they fasted from food, played games, learned about third world countries, gave socks to the homeless, cleaned up a local park, shared the Lord's Supper, and then celebrated with "break fast" meal at the end.

As one of the adult leaders, I was SO IMPRESSED with the determination and commitment of these teens to invest 30 hours of their lives so that others could live. Hear what a few said about their experience, and see if you don't notice that their involvement yielded learning.

The way that families live in poverty makes you realize how spoiled and lucky we are. ~Rebecca

Then I began to think, I’m only doing this for 30 hours, and by choice. ~Julio

I realized that life isn’t easy for every person in this world. ~Adriana

This certainly makes me appreciate living here in America. ~Cameron

It made me feel like I was recognizing a problem in the world and helping to fix it instead of ignore it. ~Victoria

I got to learn more about the kids in Africa and got to feel like one too. I would definitely do this again. ~Marvin

This has changed the way I feel about all these people (those who struggle against hunger). ~Brittney

These students could have watched a video about global hunger, and most likely have forgotten about it the next day. They could have written a research paper about hunger, and learned a little. But these students experienced hunger and hands-on serving, and were changed because of their involvement.

For this pastor, the implications for discipleship are clear: The more opportunities we provide for folks to actively engage in meaningful ministry, the more they will grow in Christlikeness.

The following is taken out of the Nazarene Manual 2005-2009.  One of our goals this year is to have an accurate count of NYI members.  Having an accurate count of our members affect the number of delegates we can have at the global convention.  According to the Manual individuals are members of NYI regardless of church membership or age, as long as they are actively participating individuals in Nazarene youth ministry and embrace our values.  (For a more detail description or account see pp.268-311 or follow this link http://media.premierstudios.com/nazarene/docs/Manual2005_09.pdf ).

Please submit to Nor-Cal District NYI an accurate count of your local NYI to Katie Fitch at katie_rae27@yahoo.com no later than April 7, 2008.  If you have any questions you can call me at (707)648-1986 or (707) 712-9408.

Thank you for all you do,

Pastor Donabel Martin

Multi-Cultural Event

April 11

In the past years we have had a great turn out for our Multi-Cultural Day.  On this day we highlight the different cultures that are represented on our district.  Some of these are Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Samoan, and the different Spanish cultures just to name a few.  This year we will worship and take communion together, eat together, and hope to feature different cultural activities that are particular to a people group.

PLNU will also be there to talk about the importance of higher education and to just hang out.  They will be available to answer any questions that you or your students might have.

I am so excited for this event.  If you and or your church want to be involved in any way please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Sports Day

April 12

This year following the Multi-Cultural Event we will be having a day set aside for sports competition.  The events we will focus in on are basketball, flag football, soccer, and volleyball.  We are still in the process of tightening up how each event will take place.

One of the goals of this event is to try to put together teams that will represent us at Point Loma for Elev8, our Regional Competition Weekend that will is traditionally on Memorial Day Weekend.  For our specific competition we are allowing students in 7th grade to compete, however, when we start to form teams that will represent us in May, only students who are in 8th grade and up can compete, this is a regional rule.

We are still waiting for more information for Elev8 from the region, but that should be coming in the mail very soon.  As for Sports Day on April 12th we are in the process of putting all of the information together and will be getting that out to you in the next couple of weeks.  If you have any questions, please give me a call and I will do what I can to answer them or get the question to the right person.
